Search Engine Optimization Strategies: Body Text

If you understand the concept behind building themes, being the “expert” in your field, and creating quality content, the body text is where you pull it all together. The <body> tag is immensely important to search engine marketing. This is one of the main areas of your HTML code that the search engines spider and determine what your site is about. Alpine Search Engine Optimization uses what we call the “table trick” or absolute positioning via cascade styling sheets, to have the search engines spider this content immediately.


For the best search engine ranking, consider the following when working with your body text:

  • You should have a minimum of 250 words, but should strive for 400 or more.
  • Incorporate 2/3 of your keywords in the first 200 words of the page and incorporate more throughout the remaining text (keyword frequency and distribution).
  • All the words that exist in your Title and Meta tags should appear in your text at least twice.
  • Avoid redirection and spamming.
  • Your copy should make sense.
  • All spam rules apply.
  • Do not use any “hidden text” or hide text behind images within the content.
  • Place links to other areas of your site within the body text.

At this point it should be clear why simply changing Title tags, Meta tags, adding a few keywords here and there, and submitting your site is barely scratching the surface of the complexities involved in proper search engine optimization. Even once you have done everything we suggest on this site, the process is iterative from that point forward. Meaning, for instance, that today the search engines may favor having 250 words in your body content, next year as the competition grows for certain keyphrases, those rewarded will have to have 500 or more words.
