By now almost everyone who uses the Internet has experienced the frustration of dealing with annoying pop-ups (those little windows that look like miniature browsers). They can appear over or under (known as a pop-under) the browser window, and usually have nothing to do with what you are actually searching for. Pop-ups have reached such a magnitude in annoyance that they are being perceived as another form of spamming, where advertisers are invading your privacy by feeding you information you did not ask for.

The studies have shown that there is a high correlation between pop-ups and page ranking. So why mess up your chances of getting a decent ranking on search engines when you can reach out to your customers in a friendly unintrusive manner? Doing away with pop-ups not only helps your visitors spend more time on your site, but also helps improve your search engine rankings.

Remember, anything that slows down your site and makes your website visitors get impatient should be avoided. If your visitors feel pop-ups are a problem for them, they may not visit your site again though they happen to be your potential customers. Eliminate anything that can be annoying to your potential customers and a hindrance to your search engine positioning.
